i wrote this awhile ago...

The first time
You spoke the words
“I love you”
To me
My heart stopped
And it seemed like forever
Before I could answer
You and say
“I love you to.”
You then smiled
As if
You had been afraid
For so long that
I would not have loved
You in return if
You dared to utter those
Three wonderful words.
And when
You looked at me and asked
“Is that a promise?”
I wanted to laugh
And throw my arms around
You
Because that is what
I had wanted to
Ask of you.
So I gently took
Your hand
And said
“I promise, I’ll love you forever.”
And that is exactly what I hope for.
I hope for this love
That we’ve found
To last us
Forever and for
Always.
